St Paddy’s Day Celebration at Verde Canyon Railroad

By March 17th the scenic Verde Canyon has begun the “wearing o’ the green” as its rich riparian Cottonwood and willow forests awaken from their short winter slumber. It is said that everyone is a little bit Irish on St Patrick’s Day, and all ought to wear a bit of green to celebrate the holiday. What better way than to surround yourself in the green of our valley aboard Verde Canyon Railroad? After all, “Verde” means green, named for the river and the riparian corridor it creates.
In celebration of St Paddy’s Day a selection of Irish ales will be available for purchase on the patio and in the café. Raise a glass and toast to St. Patrick. He may have driven the snakes out of Ireland, but he’d have his work cut out for him in Arizona!
A Celtic-inspired lunch option with a Southwestern spin will be available for St Patrick’s Day lunch at the train’s Copper Spike Café prior to the train’s 1pm departure. Celebrate springtime, St. Paddy and being surrounded by awe-inspiring nature aboard this scenic high desert train, as Arizona’s Longest-Running Nature Show travels its historic high-desert route.

Annual Made In Clarkdale Art Show and Sale

The Made In Clarkdale Art Show and Sale began in 1987.  Artists living and working in Clarkdale celebrate once a year at a festive weeklong event in December—the Made In Clarkdale Art Show and Sale. More than 50 visual and performing artists showcase their work in the historic Clark Memorial Clubhouse, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The beautiful old building, with its wooden floors and high ceilings, is located at 19 N. 9th Street in Clarkdale, adjacent to the library. You don’t have to live in Clarkdale to view the astonishing variety of visual art created in the small, friendly community—from large acrylic paintings to jewelry and small ceramics—or to enjoy the dance, music and poetry performances and workshops. On the last Saturday of the event everyone can get an education. In small mini-workshops, artists demonstrate different techniques–from glass making to creating metal sculptures.
